Wisdom from Marilla Cuthbert

Recently, Cameron and I rewatched the first two Anne of Green Gables movies.  As I was watching, I began to notice that Marilla had some pretty cool things to say.  I thought it might be a fun blog post, so here goes!

1.  To despair is to turn your back on God.

Sometimes it is super hard to remember this!  I don't know why... This quote reminds me of a favorite hymn:  When Faith Endures (you can read the lyrics, here)

2.  Save your thoroughness for prayer, God doesn't want a fair-weather friend.

Love this quote!  Marilla never fails to give a good does of sensibility.

3.  Anne:  What would you have done if someone dared you to walk the ridgepole?
Marilla:  I would have stayed on firm ground and let them dare away.

Don't let people make you leave your firm ground to walk any impractical ridgepoles, it will give you a metaphorically sprained sense of dignity.

4. Matthew Cuthbert: Mrs. Spencer made a lucky mistake, I guess.
Marilla Cuthbert: It wasn't luck; it was Providence. He knew we needed her.

Sometimes we forget to recognize God's hand in our blessings.

                                        5. You don't make important visits in kitchen clothes.

Truly wise words.

6. It's not right to cry so, God knows best.
The first part of this quote is very difficult.  Sometimes people need to grieve so that they can understand that God really does have plan for everyone.

7.  You can never tell about people from their outsides.
If we could all just learn this as a society, things would be much improved.

8.  We can't change what God determines.
We have to follow God's plan for us.  There's a reason why it's called the Plan of Happiness.  If we follow it, we will be happy!  By the way, this gif has nothing to do with this quote, I just really like it.

Thanks for reading!

Shane's Home!!

After a massive camera collaboration (thanks Melissa and Shane!) I finally have all of the pictures from Shane's arrival from South Africa!

All of us gathered by the arrival area.

YAY!  He's home!  Everyone was so excited!!

Shane swooping in for a long-awaited hug.

He was very happy!

Hugs all around!

Sigh, some of these are out of order.  This was when we were waiting for him to arrive and watching for his plane.

Right from the start you could tell how much he had grown and changed.

There was this really cool app that let us see exactly where his plane was!

Shane with Mom and Dad.

More goofy waiting pictures!

No one could stop smiling!

Photobomb!

Waiting....

Waiting....

The anticipation was horrible!

HI!

Peace!

Another photobomb, see what happens when we're bored?

Cute!

Wadsworths being silly.

They had a pretty bunch of balloons for him!

More hugs.

It was so amazing to see him again!

Brothers reunited!

Landon's face here is priceless!

He is all grown up now...

He was one of the last one to get off the plane (besides the pilots).

Family pictures!

I thought it might be cool to see a comparison from when he left.

Silly picture. All of us are trying to strangle Shane.

Shane with Mom and Dad 2015                                                          Same picture, before he left.

Here is a close-up of the sign they made.

Shane also showed us some pictures from his mission.  Warning, possible cuteness ahead!

Shane told us amazing details about every one of these pictures, and I will try to recall them correctly.

I think this picture is very bad boy/missionary.  If that's possible.

Shane and his companion who dressed like Santa Claus.

He really got to do a lot of active things like hiking, rock climbing and etc.

The Johannesburg temple.

Cute!

He and his companions had a lot of fun together!

Shane got to come back and baptize this wonderful lady that he taught earlier in his mission.

He got to try a bunch of different types of meat like alligator and ostrich.

The restaurant was located inside a resort, so they used the foliage to pretend they were in a jungle.

Raise the rooooof!

Posing with a statue.

Beautiful flowers!

I believe this was one of Shane's last companions.

On splits.

Shane raved about this flavor of pop, but he couldn't quite describe it.  Wikipedia describes it as rosy vanilla/fruity.

Shane said that people on his mission loved to have pictures taken.

The kids are so adorable!!

See what I mean??

In quite a few of his pictures, he is holding a Book of Mormon.  Go figure.

Giraffe.  (Is there anything else to be said??)

These are old nuclear cooling towers.

At the top of the towers.

They had a lot of cool paintings.

Oh no!! Giant Shane!!

P-day fun!

This is the cutest picture, EVER!

It is so great to have Shane home!  He had (and still has) many cool stories to tell.  It is great to see the growth that he experienced and the love that he has for the people he taught.

Love,

Courtney

PS-Thanks for making it to the end of the longest blog post ever!!  I totally understand if you tl:dr.  Have a great day!
