More Conversations

We got released from our Primary calling a few weeks ago, but were called in to substitute today.  We got to teach our old class!  It was great to see all of them and how they've grown.  They also supplied us with some hilarious conversations, so here goes:

Primary Leader:  Primary Kid 1 how do you love your family?
Primary Kid 1:  But I didn't have my hand raised, I didn't!  I didn't raise my hand!

Our whole class:  Trying to one-up each other with airplane stories
Primary Kid 2:  My Dad's a pilot.
Rest of the class:  **chirp, chirp**

(We were drawing pictures of our families using a tracing of a hand.)
Primary Kid 2:  My Dad has a frowny face because he's grumpy.
(Seriously, the most frowny face I have ever seen on a crayon-traced finger)
Primary Kid 1:  Why?
Primary Kid 2:  He yelled at me.

Primary Kid 3:  Can I get a drink?
Cameron:  If you hurry REALLY fast.
(Primary Kid 3 rushes out of the room and comes back with water dripping down her chin).
PK3:  I hurried really fast!
'
(Cameron showed the kids a "magic trick that involved two pennies, a piece of paper and his tie.)
Cameron:  Look!  The penny disappeared, it's magic!
Rest of the class besides PK3:  **shock**
PK3:  Nobody has magic
(She also figured out the rest of the tricks in Cameron's "magic" repertoire)

This isn't a conversation but I thought it might be a good setup for Other Primary Kid's behavior.  In our ward, the Primary president knocks on the classroom door 5 minutes before we are supposed to end our lesson.  OPK decided to knock 30 minutes before the actual time class was supposed to be over.  It was ward conference so we thought that maybe we were ending early to make more time for stake business stuff.  We packed up our class and headed downstairs, only to see that no one else was waiting in the hall.  We went back upstairs to see if the other classes were still there and caught OPK knocking on all of the doors in the hall.  Needless to say we spent the rest of class playing telephone.

Primary Leader:  What can we do with our ears?
OPK:  Cut them off.
(She preceded to do this with every body part mentioned, but varied in the way to destroy the particular appendage)

Life Of A Primary Teacher

These are small moments in the life of a primary teacher:

That awkward moment when a child in your class makes an inappropriate comment during sharing time and you hide your face in shame.

When your class begs for treats.  Every single freaking Sunday.

Your class goes off on a random tangent and you don't even remember how it started.

Last week, we started talking about Commoncore, pluto (specifically why it wasn't a planet anymore) and gold rings.

 They are always hungry.  Always.

That one overachieving teacher that makes the rest of us look like hillbillies.
Thanks a lot!  You know who you are....

When one of the kids gives the most random answer ever and you're not quite sure how to respond without sounding mean.

That one Sunday a month when  your kids are so wiggly during sharing time you can't even believe it.
Oh look, she's doing something.  Look, look!  Look up there.  Please?

At the end of class, you ask what they learned about and no one knows the answer.

You lose track of what lesson you are on and try to sneak a peak at the handouts from the class in front of you.

When sugardoodle saves your life.

The walk of shame when you arrive late.
And you know all of the other teachers are totally doing this.

That parent who walks up to you and thanks you for being an awesome teacher.

When your class latches on to a concept and gets it!

I love being a primary teacher a lot.  I sometimes feel frustrated with my class but I wouldn't trade this calling for any other.  Next year will be even more fun because we are getting a class full of boys.  Looking forward to that...  NOT!  It will be hard to move on to a new class, but you always grow to love them.
I am way behind on my posts, so I will probably be posting a lot in the next few days in order to catch up.  Sorry about that...
Did you like the gifs or were they too obnoxious?  Let me know!

I hope you all had a merry Christmas!

Love,

Courtney

The Primary Program

Last week at church, we were switched back to our old class.  It was a bittersweet transition, but it will all work out.  Anyway, I just wanted to share a few highlights from our program.

1.  The little kid (maybe 5 years old) who memorized the entire story of Daniel and the lion's den.  He did such a good job!  He only needed a few key words to keep him on track.
2.  The boy who told the story of Ammon and Lamoni.  He was so funny!  Best quotes:  "Smote means cut off, pretty gruesome huh?  But it's in the Book of Mormon, so.....  He gathered up all the limbs and put them in a bag or something..."  My favorite:  "We don't have many opportunities to watch people's flocks or cut people's arms off."
3.  This young lady who said that we not only needed to be kind to others, but also to ourselves.  I tell you, these kids are wise beyond their years.
4.  This one girl kept on confusing immortality and immorality, but she fixed it in time for the program.

I may only be telling funny parts, but this program really was inspiring.  Being in primary has really been a blessing for us.  I know that the bishop was inspired to put us there.  I can't wait to see what these kids come up with next.

Love,

Courtney

The Job Search

I hate looking for jobs, yuck.  I feel like I am constantly doing "commercials" about myself.  I have had a lot of help from everyone, which I really appreciate.  I have an awesome family, let me just say.  They are always so supportive of whatever I choose to do.  I am so grateful for that.
Cameron and I have been watching some old Disney movies lately.  I had never seen Blackbeard's Ghost or 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and they were great!  Same guy!!!

Sometimes I feel like I should write a FAQ page for our life.  The problem is, the people who need it don't read this blog.  Maybe I should just have it printed on a t-shirt.  Yes, I will do that.
Our primary kids have been extremely hyper lately.  I think it is a pre-Halloween sugar rush.  Yay...  Their trains of thought are so hard to follow.  However, we do get on some pretty funny side conversations.  Also, our class does this really weird thing where they tell Cameron that he has _________ on his head.  For example, you have a spider on your head, you have an octopus on your head etc.  Unfortunately, this has spread to all of the other classes as well. It is so odd, I don't even remember how it started.

Anyways, that's pretty much all that's going on in our life.  We love reading your blog posts!

Conversations in Primary

Cameron and I teach the six-seven year old kids in Primary and I'm pretty sure we have the most adorable class EVER!  We usually have three or four kids in our class.  They are all sweet and cute, they say the darndest things.  They all have very different personalities but they all bring something to our class.  This post is some of the cute things that they and the other kids in Junior Primary say.  I hope you enjoy!

Conversations in Church
As I’m sure it would be creepy to post the names of people without their permission on my blog (especially kids) I will refer to people by number in order to differentiate.  There is something you must know about Primary kid #1, she is very….enthusiastic.  She loves to answer every question and make sure that she is heard.  This sometimes drowns out the other children, they usually just nod and smile to whatever she says.
Me:  Does anyone know the story of when Jesus fasted for 40 days?
Primary Kid #1:  Yeah, that’s when Satan tried to get Jesus to eat rocks!

Primary Teacher #1:  (Trying to teach an article of faith).  Who knows what a principle is?
Random Primary Kid:  That’s the man who is in charge of the school!

Me:  The chapel doors seem to say to me….
Primary Kid #2:  BE QUIET!

Random Primary Kid:  Please bless us to have a super-de-duper Sunday…

Cameron:  Who are some people that we can share with?
Assorted Primary kids:  Our brothers, our sisters, etc.
Primary Kid #1:  We can’t share with our house because it doesn’t have a mouth!

Random Primary Kid:  I LOVE candy!
Primary Teacher #2:  What is the best way we can show our gratitude?
Random Primary Kid:  Saying thank you is the best thing you can do!
Other Random Primary Kid:  No!  Flying is the best!

Me:  What are some gifts that Heavenly Father gives us?
Primary Kid #1:  I wish I had a piƱata so I could eat candy…
