Life Of A Primary Teacher

These are small moments in the life of a primary teacher:

That awkward moment when a child in your class makes an inappropriate comment during sharing time and you hide your face in shame.

When your class begs for treats.  Every single freaking Sunday.

Your class goes off on a random tangent and you don't even remember how it started.

Last week, we started talking about Commoncore, pluto (specifically why it wasn't a planet anymore) and gold rings.

 They are always hungry.  Always.

That one overachieving teacher that makes the rest of us look like hillbillies.
Thanks a lot!  You know who you are....

When one of the kids gives the most random answer ever and you're not quite sure how to respond without sounding mean.

That one Sunday a month when  your kids are so wiggly during sharing time you can't even believe it.
Oh look, she's doing something.  Look, look!  Look up there.  Please?

At the end of class, you ask what they learned about and no one knows the answer.

You lose track of what lesson you are on and try to sneak a peak at the handouts from the class in front of you.

When sugardoodle saves your life.

The walk of shame when you arrive late.
And you know all of the other teachers are totally doing this.

That parent who walks up to you and thanks you for being an awesome teacher.

When your class latches on to a concept and gets it!

I love being a primary teacher a lot.  I sometimes feel frustrated with my class but I wouldn't trade this calling for any other.  Next year will be even more fun because we are getting a class full of boys.  Looking forward to that...  NOT!  It will be hard to move on to a new class, but you always grow to love them.
I am way behind on my posts, so I will probably be posting a lot in the next few days in order to catch up.  Sorry about that...
Did you like the gifs or were they too obnoxious?  Let me know!

I hope you all had a merry Christmas!

Love,

Courtney

Thankful Posts

I am excited to finally be doing this!  I think it is an excellent way to celebrate Thanksgiving.  I really don't want to flood your dashboards with posts though, so I will just write this post every day (hopefully) and post it at the end of the month.

1.  I am thankful for a healthy body.  Being sick really reminds me of the wonderful body that I normally have.  So many people don't have whole and healthy bodies, I am blessed enough to have one.  This makes me very grateful.

2.  Today, I am thankful for inspiration.  It comes from many different places and in different forms.  Inspiration is something that makes us do better, try harder and be spontaneous.

3.  I love Skype so much!  That is the subject of my thankful post today.  I love being able to feel connected with the ones I love.  It really feels like you are in the same room together.  It has made me miss my family a whole lot less.

4.  Today, I am thankful for this boy.  He is so patient with my little quirks.  I don't know what I would do without him.  He always knows how to make me feel better.  He has seen me at my worst and still loves me.  (I think he might be a little crazy.)

5.  When I was younger, I really didn't appreciate my siblings the way I should have.  Today I was thinking about how grateful I am for my sister, Miranda.  I had a really hard day, and she always knows what to say to cheer me up.  Thanks Miranda!  Love you lots!!

6.  I am so grateful for tender mercies.  I have been struggling with telling people how I really feel.  This is really hard for me and I have a very difficult time with it.  While I was in the midst of this problem the words of Ted Geisel came to me:  "Be who you are, and say what you feel, because those who mind, don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."  That is so true!  The people who truly care about me, want to hear my opinions and thoughts.  If I have a problem with them, they would WANT me to tell them.  This is obviously a simple concept, but it is hard for me to accept it as truth.  Anyway, I am thankful that the Spirit reminded me of this thought.  It brought me a lot of comfort.

7.  Today I am thankful for Cameron's great job.  It can be frustrating and difficult at times, but it has supported us ever since we were married.  At times I have taken this for granted, but being involved in a job search makes me see how valuable this employment is.

8.  It is sometimes (a lot of the time) really difficult to remember that God is in charge.  I am so grateful for the knowledge that He has a plan for me.  This makes my life have more purpose and meaning.

9.  I am thankful for music today!!  I love the power and influence it can have in my life.  Breaking out into song is one of my favorite things to do.

10.  Our calling into primary has been a great blessing.  I am so grateful for those children and the sweet spirit they bring with them every Sunday.  They teach us more than we could ever teach them.

11.  Weekends always seem to pass by so quickly, but I am still thankful for them.  I love the relaxing and peaceful days that they bring.

12.  Today, I am so grateful for insurance.  It may seem like a pain when you have to shell out the money every month, but it can be handy sometimes.

13.  I am so thankful for the women in my ward.  They are so funny and accept me for who I am.  They show that you don't have to be perfect, you just have to try your best.

14.  When I look back and see where we were two years ago, it really makes me grateful for a lot of things.  I am so glad we learned how to manage our money.  It takes away so much unnecessary stress.

15.  Kind of taking off from my last thankful post, I am grateful for people who allowed me to grow up and didn't hold my stupid mistakes against me.  I did a lot of dumb things when I was younger and I'm glad that my family still loves me and didn't just write me off.

16.  This week I have been making some ornaments for my family.  It is really difficult for me to trust my own instincts and decide what looks good.  During this last year, my goal has been to overcome this particular trial.  I am thankful for the progress I have made.

17.  Today I was thinking about how many great memories Jeremy and I have together.  We both love to read and share other common interests.  It has been fun to Skype with him and I am so glad that he and Cameron get along so well together.  I am so grateful for my little brother.

18.  Some girls aren't as lucky as I am.  I was blessed with great in-laws.  We have so much fun together.  I truly feel like they have accepted me into their family.

19.  While working on these ornaments I mentioned, I was reminded of my Mom.  She taught us so many fun craft projects and always had us working on one, especially while watching TV.  She is so talented and crafty.  Almost everyone she knows has benefited from her talents.  She is such a giving person and I am so grateful that she passed on this giving attitude to us kids.  Every Thanksgiving, we do a service project at a Senior Center.  Cameron and I have started this tradition in our family.  I am so glad that she took the time to show us the importance of service.

20.  Today, I am thankful for a laugh.  Sometimes is comes from the most random places.  It is so nice to be able to laugh at myself, even if it isn't funny right away.

21.  I make a lot of mistakes.  (Like, a lot). I am so glad to know that I can repent and start over each new day.

22.  Payday is the best day!  I am so thankful for payday!  I don't know how we survived without it.

23.  I would not have survived this day without prayer.  The knowledge that Heavenly Father always answers my prayers is priceless to me.

24.    Today I went to Coeur d'Alene to see my family.  Jeremy decided it would be funny to lock us out of the house.  Haha.  I love that kid.  I am so glad that he is my brother.  I would not be surprised if he invented something that changed the world, he is one smart cookie.  We both enjoy reading books and playing games.  We had so much fun together as kids, we drove our mother crazy.

25.  I have the cutest niece ever, seriously.  She is so funny!  She likes to laugh and smile at everyone she meets.  Even though she is so young, she already has a bright personality.  I am so glad that she came to our family.

26.  The thing I am grateful for today may seem silly, but I am thankful for it nonetheless.  Today I am thankful for a comfortable bed to sleep on.

27.  My family is so awesome, seriously.  I am so lucky to have such a supportive network of people backing me up.  They have always been there for me. Also, you can tell by these pictures that some families need some updated pictures taken together.

28.  Wow!  I can't believe that it is Thanksgiving already.  Doing this every day has really helped me to realize how blessed I truly am.  A lot of people say that these type of posts are silly because we should try to be grateful all year long.  While I agree that we should act kind towards others and be grateful for our blessings, there is nothing wrong with taking this opportunity to realize how blessed we really are.

PS:  Congratulations for making it to the bottom of the longest post EVER.  :D

Love,

Courtney
